Here is a run down of just some of the stops I made in Auckland last weekend. Having spent so little time up there since I moved south 6 years ago I saw the city through new interested eyes and woah….there has been some awesomeness taking place! The waterfront areas closest to the city have come alive with bars, restaurants, shops and public areas that seem to be thriving. Exciting interior fit outs, divine food and clever use of old forgotten spaces. I was buzzing!
A lazy Saturday morning visit to my old workplace, BoConcept
had my credit card frothing a little!! The beautiful modern showroom has blossomed into a new retail concept; BLOC
. I could have spent hours cruising the open plan mini stores of Citta Design
, Pencil Boutique
, Collected by LeeAnn Yare
(post on this later in the week!) and revisited the distinctive BoConcept furniture and style.
I also dropped a foot in at Douglas + Bec
. Pared back and perfectly simple kiwi design mixes easily with carefully selected off shore products. My timing was spot on to meet “Bec”
and her delicious baby and the very sparkly Zoe who was on shop duty for the day.
Rounding out the visit with late afternoon wines on the rooftop at Tyler St. Garage
I realised that the Auckland I had left in my 20’s had been replaced by a creative and forward thinking city that might just suit my 30’s. Food for thought.
