Studio Home x Dilana Rugs

What a complete honour it is has been to be asked to create a product in reflection of my own tastes.
Better yet, to present a hand drawn concept and have it interpreted exactly as imagined!

Christchurch based; Dilana rugs is responsible for some of the most eye catching and creative floor coverings in the country. Their Artist Rug collection is a roll call of some of NZ’s most established artists work interpreted with great care and detail into luxurious floor treasures to be collected (think Martin Poppelwell, Andrew McLeod, Bing Dawe).
On top of that, Sudi Dargipour; Dilana’s head designer, has turned her hand to a bold in house collection of rugs and customer projects adorning public and private spaces around the nation!

So to be asked to collaborate was a real thrill.
As an eternal lover of design and art, but not necessarily experienced in this myself, it has been thrilling to see my humble, hand drawn concept represented in tightly cut, plush wool to be enjoyed by others beyond myself!

For nearly a year I worked closely with Sudi and her team in the pursuit of creating a rug that was both graphic and organic in its vibe.

There isn’t a straight line on it so be warned those that don’t like anything skewiff! I was able to pull in my love of pin stripes and pair with soft curves, the final design combining deep navy, ochre, powder blue and forest green…a favourite gathering of tones!

The result is a luxurious but fun loving rug that offers a new interactive experience for Dilana’s customers, presenting a wider choice of colour combinations that allows for true customisation. While the graphic base design remains, you as a customer have the ability to tone it down or up, selecting a palette that vibes with your personal aesthetic.
